Autobiography

Hi guys! My name is Adil and I am from Hagerstown, MD. The reason I came to the University of Maryland was because it was close to home and relatively less expensive than other schools. I am currently a biology major but may be switching to psychology in the next year depending on how I feel about all of these biology classes. I plan on going to medical school and eventually, and hopefully, becoming a doctor.

I personally dislike writing with a passion. Ever since I was little, my favorite subjects have been math and science, mostly because I was competent in them. English however was never my thing. Writing papers and essays used to be difficult because I would always get writers block and wouldn’t know what to say. I could never be able to write continuously without taking breaks to think of what I was going to say next. However, that changed when I took AP Language because our teacher constantly made us write timed essays and journals everyday in class and by the end of the year, I was able to not only complete them but have enough time to go back and make them better. I personally like writing argumentative essays more than anything else. In this class, I hope I will be able to perfect my english skills and be able to write professionally if I ever needed to.

  1. Hi, Adil! I enjoyed reading your post, and I liked your honesty! You don't have to like writing, but I'm glad you see it has some value as something to potentially fall back on. I hope to also show how writing is everywhere, even where we don't "see it." We definitely have some methods of brainstorming/ getting the idea juices flowing, which I hope you'll find helpful, and I look forward to reading more of your thoughts.

  2. Hey Adil! Wow, a doctor; that is an awesome goal you have set forth! Definitely have my respect and best wishes on that end. And I couldn’t agree with you more while reading your post. I’ve always preferred my science courses over my literature classes because I never knew “what to say” when asked to write. But maybe this course will help me change that as your AP course did for you. I, too, look forward to getting to know you more throughout this semester.
On a side-note (if you don’t mind me asking), what is it about argumentative essays that make you like writing them?

  3. Hi Adil! Good luck becoming a doctor. I thought about it but I can't handle that much school. I hope you find writing in this class to be too much of a pain. I totally agree with your goal of perfecting your writing skills while in this class. Practice makes perfect, right?

  4. Hi Adil! I can relate with you about the writer's block, it's always been one of my biggest problems. It probably still is, so I hope I can work on it.

Good luck with the pre-med route :) Sometimes I think doctors should study in the field of psychology in order to learn more about how to deal with people because they meet with and talk to their patients every day. So knowing how to interact with people will definitely be useful for that career.
